Honest reflection from building interviewfox(https://interviewfox.ai/) — an AI tool for developers ace technical interviews.
The Influencer Trap
Our first growth channel was KOCs — micro-influencers with real audiences in the job-seeking community. It worked, until we looked at the margin. The costs were quietly eating most of what we made. Rented growth: the moment you stop paying, it stops working.
The Shift
We're now investing in channels that compound over time rather than ones that require constant spend to maintain. Still early, but the unit economics feel healthier.
What I'm Figuring Out
For those who've built developer-focused products — a few genuine questions:
How do you think about the tradeoff between paid acquisition and organic growth in the early stages?
What's been your most reliable long-term channel?
Any mistakes you'd warn others about?
Would love to hear how others have navigated this.
