The Problem
Small businesses with 15–50 hourly staff are stuck between Excel spreadsheets and scheduling software that costs $60–160/month due to per-user fees. They need basic shift scheduling, clock-in tracking, and payroll-ready exports, but can't justify enterprise pricing. Spreadsheets are chaos; most scheduling apps are a budget nightmare.
What I'm Thinking of Building
ShiftFlat is a flat-rate scheduling platform: free for up to 10 employees (shifts + basic assignments), then $9.99/month for unlimited staff with mobile clock-in/out (geofenced), drag-drop shift board, and one-click payroll CSV export compatible with QuickBooks and Gusto. No hidden per-seat charges.
Who It's For
Operations managers and owners at restaurants, gyms, retail stores, and home services (plumbing, cleaning) with 15–50 hourly employees. Revenue typically $500k–$5M. Currently using Excel, Google Sheets, or expensive all-in-one platforms.
Key Features (Planned)
- Drag-drop shift board—assign staff in seconds, no training needed
- Mobile clock-in/out with optional geofence verification
- Payroll-ready CSV export (compatible with QuickBooks, Gusto, ADP)
- Free for up to 10 employees—upgrade when you grow
- Team messaging inside the app (no separate Slack)
- Automatic shift reminders via SMS/email
I'm validating this idea before writing a single line of code. If this resonates with you, I'd love your feedback:
If you could ditch spreadsheets for $10/month and get your team clocking in from their phone, would you sign up today? What's the ONE thing your current system doesn't do that drives you crazy?
