Shopify moves Knowledge base into the admin, giving merchants one place to review, edit, and publish the facts AI agents use about a store.
AI agents are starting to answer questions about online stores. Do your clients know what they’re saying?
On October 26, 2026, Shopify announced that Knowledge base is now built into the admin, at Sales channels > Agentic > Knowledge base.
How It Works
Merchants review, edit, and publish the facts AI agents get about their store, like contact details and gift services. Shopify drafts these facts from the store’s own storefront pages, and each one links back to its source.
Nothing reaches AI agents until the merchant publishes it.
The Old App Is Going Away
The standalone Knowledge Base app will no longer be available after January 15, 2027. What happens next depends on the store:
- Fewer than 1,000 facts: Facts moved over and were published. No action needed.
- More than 1,000 facts: Facts did not move over. Add the ones you want to keep before January 15, 2027. Shopify has emailed these stores.
- Never used the app: Nothing to do. Facts are drafted from the storefront and stay unpublished until approved.
What It Means for Developers
This is an admin update. The announcement doesn’t mention API or code changes, so I won’t claim any.
If you manage client stores, a few checks make sense:
- Find which clients used the old app
- Look for stores with large fact sets
- Review drafted facts before publishing, since errors on storefront pages can carry over
Wrapping Up
Merchants get one place to control what AI agents say about their store. Developers get one clear deadline: January 15, 2027.
