Looking for a linux I can recommend to windozers. I initially disliked the lag of KDE plasma but that can be fixed by finding the right things to turn off. There's some fancy animations that my 8 year old test machine just doesn't like, and it's on a HDD, so they had to go.
Other wise, I think this is the OS I would recommend to anyone Looking to escape windows, or facing the end of support for their windows 10.
I am going to have to figure out the shortcuts and actually test drive it for a while. It's a good sign that I am not thinking of searching for yet another distro ISO to add to my collection.
The installer works just fine from Ventoy, where I have it in a separate folder for ISOs. It boots up into Wayland and I don't expect it to be as quick as a minimalist install on x11, but once tuned it seems ok.
I was able to install Atkinson Hyperlegible Mono Nerd Font (atkynson) with the file manager allowing me to move it to /usr/local/share/fonts/ by providing admin password, which saved me having to do too many tricks just to add a font. other than also running CLI 'fc-cache -fv' afterwards.
One shortcoming, if there is a shortcut for 'show all apps' I can't find it, and have to resort to opening the Discover software center and choosing 'installed'. The other thing I have to figure out is how to get some RMB menu action going, as I don't want to run to the corner every time I want to launch a program - probably have to rtfm.
I also hate the default archive manager, but thankfully there is ARK which behaves as expected, allowing me to put off installing 7zip for a bit.
This might even become my daily driver, as well as one I recommend to escapees.
