44 Pages, 34 Descriptions: Where the App and Guide Pages of 22 Tools Repeat Their Meta Description

I work on OnePassApps, the team behind app.onepassapps.com.

Our site has 22 app pages and 22 guide pages. I fetched all 44 of them over plain HTTPS on 2026-11-07 and compared what each one tells a search engine and a social card. The title tags are all different. The meta descriptions are not: 10 of the 22 app and guide pairs ship the exact same description.

The page pair below is the Ambient Noise Mixer app and its guide. Both pages describe the tool the same way, so the guide inherits the app page description instead of describing what the guide itself covers.

What the layer looks like across all 44 pages

  • All 44 pages answer HTTP 200.
  • There are 44 title tags and every one of them is different.
  • There are only 34 distinct meta descriptions across those 44 pages.
  • On the 22 app pages the title tag and the visible h1 are the same string in 22 of 22 cases.
  • On the 22 guide pages the title tag and the visible h1 are never the same string (0 of 22 match): on all 22 the h1 is the title tag with the trailing — OnePassApps removed.
  • The og:description matches the meta description on 44 of the 44 pages, so a duplicated description is duplicated in the social card as well.
  • The canonical tag on every one of the 44 pages is that page's own URL, so each app and guide pair points at two different URLs - one /apps/ page and one /guides/ page.

The 10 pairs that repeat one description

Each line below is the description both pages of that pair carry. The text is quoted from the served HTML.

  • ambient-noise-mixer - "Mix white, pink, brown, rain-like and fan-like noise with a sleep timer, then download a WAV. Generated in your browser, no account."
  • calendar-maker - "Make a printable year, month or weekly calendar with your own dates. Choose A4 or US Letter, week numbers and notes, then print or save as PDF."
  • focus-timer - "Run a Pomodoro cycle or a countdown of up to 24 hours with a chime and the time left in the tab title. Runs in your browser; nothing is stored."
  • invoice-maker - "Write an invoice or quote with line items, tax and discounts, then print or save a PDF. Runs in your browser with no account."
  • password-generator - "Make random passwords and passphrases in your browser with a strength estimate. Nothing is stored or sent. No sign-in needed."
  • qr-code-maker - "Make static QR codes for links, text, Wi-Fi, contacts, email, phone and SMS in your browser. Download PNG or SVG. No account or tracking."
  • screen-recorder - "Record a screen, window or tab with optional system and microphone audio, preview it and download MP4 or WebM. Nothing is uploaded."
  • signature-maker - "Draw your signature with a mouse, finger or pen and download a transparent PNG or SVG. Works in your browser with no account."
  • time-zone-planner - "Compare working hours in two to eight time zones, see the shared overlap and share a meeting time as text or a downloadable .ics file."
  • word-counter - "Count words, characters, sentences and paragraphs, estimate reading and speaking time, check a limit and find repeated words. Private, in your browser."

The 12 pairs that do not

The other app and guide pairs each carry their own text, and the guide version is not a copy of the app version:

  • chart-maker - app: "Turn local CSV into bar, line or scatter charts. Check an accessible data table and download standalone SVG or PNG without uploading data." guide: "Paste or import local CSV, choose columns, check an accessible data table, and download a standalone SVG or PNG chart."
  • citation-formatter - app: "Format manually entered books, web pages and journal articles using supported APA 7th, MLA 9th and Chicago 17th bibliography style subsets." guide: "Enter book, web-page or journal details manually and format a bibliography using supported APA 7th, MLA 9th or Chicago 17th subsets."
  • cv-builder - app: "Build a résumé from your own details, choose one of three templates, print or save as PDF, and keep an editable JSON backup locally." guide: "Enter your own résumé details, choose Classic, Modern or Editorial, and print an A4 CV or save a PDF from your browser."
  • email-signature - app: "Create a contact signature, copy formatted HTML or plain text, and follow desktop Gmail, Outlook and Apple Mail setup examples." guide: "Build a signature from your contact details, copy formatted HTML or plain text, and follow Gmail, Outlook or Apple Mail setup examples."
  • label-maker - app: "Arrange multiline entries or local CSV rows into printable label and card sheets. Set paper, margins and spacing, then print or save as PDF." guide: "Turn multiline entries or local CSV rows into label sheets with paper, margin and spacing controls, then print or save as PDF."
  • movie-tracker - app: "Browse movies and TV series, keep Unwatched and Watched lists, and record private ratings, reviews and reactions after signing in." guide: "Browse movies and TV series, keep Unwatched and Watched lists, and use private ratings and reactions in MovieMatcherAI."
  • newsflow - app: "Read attributed stories, open original sources, listen to briefs and manage a session queue with NewsFlow." guide: "Use NewsFlow to read attributed stories, open original sources, listen to briefs, and manage a session listening queue."
  • paperkit - app: "Organise existing PDF pages locally without uploading files. Merge, split, reorder and rotate pages, then download a PDF or split-page ZIP." guide: "Merge, split, reorder and rotate existing PDF pages locally, then download a combined PDF or a ZIP of individual pages."
  • screen-planner - app: "Compare screen width, height, area and viewing angles from diagonal size, aspect ratio and seating distance. Export a same-scale SVG diagram." guide: "Compare two TV or cinema screen sizes using diagonal, aspect ratio and seating distance, then export a same-scale SVG diagram."
  • social-card - app: "Compose a headline, supporting copy and local image into an article or social preview graphic. Adjust the design and download PNG or SVG." guide: "Compose a headline, supporting copy and local image into a social or article graphic, then download PNG or self-contained SVG."
  • subtitle-workbench - app: "Convert existing SRT and WebVTT files, shift or repair timings, validate cues and export subtitle batches locally. Does not transcribe audio." guide: "Validate existing SRT or VTT cues, apply time shifts or explicit repairs, and export subtitle files or a batch ZIP locally."
  • teleprompter - app: "Read a pasted script with adjustable speed, text size, mirroring and keyboard controls. Runs locally without camera or microphone access." guide: "Paste a script, adjust scrolling speed and text size, mirror the reading view, and control playback with the keyboard."

What else is identical, and what is not

  • One robots meta value is used on all 44 pages: "index, follow, max-image-preview:large, max-snippet:-1, max-video-preview:-1".
  • Every page declares the same language, en-GB, and the same seven JSON-LD types: BreadcrumbList, ContactPoint, ListItem, Organization, WebApplication, WebPage, WebSite.
  • One og:image is used on all 44 pages: "https://app.onepassapps.com/og-image.png". There is no per-page image.
  • The app pages are 19094 to 19542 bytes, carry exactly 10 internal links each and 6 script tags.
  • The guide pages are 26582 to 32435 bytes, carry 18 or 20 internal links depending on the page, and 3 script tags.

The internal link count is the one place the guide pages split into two groups:

  • 5 guides carry 18 internal links: citation-formatter, movie-tracker, newsflow, subtitle-workbench, teleprompter.
  • 17 guides carry 20 internal links: ambient-noise-mixer, calendar-maker, chart-maker, cv-builder, email-signature, focus-timer, invoice-maker, label-maker, paperkit, password-generator, qr-code-maker, screen-planner, screen-recorder, signature-maker, social-card, time-zone-planner, word-counter.

How this was measured

  • 22 app pages and 22 guide pages fetched over plain HTTPS on 2026-11-07, one GET per URL, no browser, no account, no cookie, no JavaScript.
  • Meta descriptions were compared as strings after stripping tags and collapsing whitespace.
  • The counts are computed over every page, not a sample.

What I did not check

  • No app was opened and no tool was run. This is what the pages say, not what the tools do.
  • The wording, the byte counts and the link counts are a snapshot of 2026-11-07.
  • I did not compare this with any other site, and I did not test how any search engine or social network renders the duplicate.
