What's your typing speed (WPM)?

Peter Kim Frank on November 17, 2017

Just a fun thread for a Friday afternoon. Most of us spend a significant percentage of our waking hours typing away on our keyboards. But how f... [Read Full]

A coworker once mocked me for not doing 10-finger typing.
I told him I was thinking faster so I could type more slowly.

He never mentioned my typing again.
And his frantic keyboard hacking slowed down considerably... ;)

  • WPM: 92
  • Keystrokes: 458
  • Accuracy: 99.35%
  • Correct words: 85
  • Wrong words: 0
  • 15" Macbook Pro late 2013 keyboard.

Quite alright, and pretty damn accurate if I say so myself (best out of 3)

Had one more go after my coffee: WPM 103, accuracy: 100% 🎉. I'm not sure why I care so much.

  • WPM: 133 😎
  • Macbook Pro 15" Keyboard
  • QWERTY

I had to post before @jess , because she's the fastest typer on the team. 🤓

  • WPM: 112
  • External keyboard: Poker 2 Cherry MX clear
  • QWERTY

I think I'm old and can no longer go past 115 😔

My best out of 3 tries.

  • WPM: 89
  • 2015 Macbook Pro 15"
  • QWERTY w/ 6 finger typing system

  • 60 WPM 🤔🙃
  • 2016 MacBook Pro keyboard
  • QWERTY

Phew, I really tried hard here!

  • WPM: 107, 4/101 incorrect words
  • MacBook Air keyboard
  • QWERTY

I have an external keyboard (Kinesis Freestyle 2), but I haven't unpacked it yet since moving.

  • WPM: 63 \o/
  • external keyword: Apple keyboard wireless
  • Azerty ( french style)

I don't know about you guys, but I am really inefficient with my fingers. I mostly use my two indexes, sometimes my left thumb will hit space, sometimes it's my right index on the space bar. My pinky is always on the MAJ key. Sometimes, I'll go absolutely nuts and type something using my other fingers, but it's oh so rare.

Not that it really matters to write code but I suppose that slows me down if I tried to be as fast as possible.

Func<Day, double, double> getWPM = (day, avg) => day == Day.Friday ? 0.75 * avg : avg;

I figured I'd break the ice by representing the not-so-fast typers out there:

  • WPM: 58
  • External Keyboard: Yes, the CODE Keyboard, 104 key w/ brown switches
  • QWERTY all the way

I have always been a slow, inaccurate typist (with terrible form). Fortunately I write mostly Java in IntelliJ these days which means I don't really have to type all that much :D

  • WPM: 143
  • No, I'm using the MacBook keyboard
  • QWERTZ

TypeRacer for the win and I guess playing the piano during my teenage years also did good things to the movability of my fingers.

  • WPM: 77
  • Accuracy: 94.83%
  • Correct words: 76
  • Wrong words: 2

Keyboard: Vortex Race 3, Cherry MX Clear

  • QWERTZ ISO - Germany

Edit:

I think I do some sort of... 6 - 7 1/2 fingers typing style.^

Looks like with my typing style I could achieve something pushing a little hard on my French words

  • WPM: 75 with 7 wrong words out of 74
  • Rapoo wireless keyboard
  • QWERTZ (Swiss layout)

Not bad for someone which doesn't type with 10 fingers '

  • 97 WPM with 95% efficiency (only one wrong word). On a good day, I can clock up to 115...but not today.

  • I've got an old Apple Pro external keyboard that I've been using forever (connected to my Linux Toshiba Thinkpad).

  • Plain old QWERTY here. :3

71 WPM, 90% accuracy, which i thought was pretty good until I saw the rest of you.
