Most "X vs Y" posts assume you can actually choose either one. This pairing is different: Sourcegraph discontinued Cody Free and Cody Pro back on 23 July 2025 — new signups stopped two months before that, and existing individual access was cut off on that date. Cody now exists only as part of an Enterprise contract, which Sourcegraph's own pricing page lists as starting around $16K/year. There's no self-serve path back in.
That leaves Claude Code as the only one of the two a new user can actually start with today, at $20/mo on the Pro plan (Max tiers run $100/mo and $200/mo for heavier usage, team seats $25-$125/seat/mo depending on tier). It's a terminal-based agent from Anthropic with full codebase understanding, works alongside any editor rather than being tied to one, and supports MCP.
Where they still differ on paper, for anyone comparing feature sets rather than shopping:
| Claude Code | Cody | |
|---|---|---|
| Autocomplete | no | Good |
| Custom models | no | yes |
| Terminal AI | yes | no |
| Works alongside any editor | yes | no |
| Self-hosted / on-prem | no | yes |
Cody's enterprise package does still offer things Claude Code doesn't — self-hosting, custom model bring-your-own — which is presumably why Sourcegraph kept it alive for the customers who already had contracts, rather than shutting it down outright. It's just not a product you can walk up and buy anymore.
We keep the comparison page up because "wait, what happened to Cody, and what do I switch to" is a real, recurring question — not because it's a live head-to-head. If you already have Enterprise access, nothing here changes that. If you don't, there's only one column on this table you can actually act on.
Full 15-dimension breakdown and both pricing tables, re-verified against each vendor's own page in October: https://devtoolsreview.com/comparisons/claude-code-vs-cody-2026/
We have no affiliate or commission relationship with either Claude Code or Cody — neither runs a publisher programme we're enrolled in. Pricing re-checked 18-20 October 2026 against both vendors' own pages.
