Day 1: itsfast.io #buildinpublic

Hello, I am Salil Ponde, a Software Developer and DevOps enthusiast with over 15 years of experience.

I am an indie hacker who has this idea of developing a product which will allow you to quickly build and launch websites and web applications. Well, there are already quite a few No Code products, website builders and content management systems in the market. But hey, the market is huge and maybe there is still some space left for yet another No (Low) Code tool and web hosting service! ;)

I have decided to build this in public. I'll first describe what lead me to build this in public and later I will give you the updates for Day 1.

I watched a few Startup School videos and I follow a few Reddit Communities related to startups and entrepreneurship. The common advise I've seen being given is to start engaging with your users and customers from the beginning rather than spending months or years building the product and then speaking to customers to find out that you built something which no one really needs.

I decided to take this advise seriously and posted this on LinkedIn:

But I ain't a LinkedIn celebrity and I am not sure how much engagement I would be able to get via the above post. Hmm, so now what?

I noticed quite a few startups following the #buildinpublic movement where they post behind the scene updates of how they build their products. It's quite the opposite of Stealth startups who absolutely do not share what they are building. By building in public you can continuously get feedback from users and generate potential interest from investors if that is what you are looking for.

Build in Public also has its share cons. Other startups can learn from your updates and build a competing product. Or it can simply make you nervous sharing updates. It is fun to share updates when things are going as planned. But when you screw up something, posting it publicly can give you shivers. But you can decide how much information you are comfortable sharing and post the updates accordingly.

Entrepreneurship can be a lonely journey and moreover when you are an indie hacker it can get lonelier. So at the moment the idea to publicly share updates and engage with the world sounds fun to me. So I have decided to try it out. Lets see how far I get with it. ;)

Here are the updates for Day 1:

  1. Posted on LinkedIn to find potential users and/or customers to engage.
  2. Posted #buildinpublic Day 1 Updates on dev.to.
  3. Purchased the domain itsfast.io. Always hard to find a domain you want. But I quite like this one.

Tomorrow's objective:

  1. Setup the Landing Page.
  2. Think about what next.

If you are interested in engaging with me, you can comment on this post. Or you can connect with me on LinkedIn.
