The Questions Will Matter More Than the Answers

For a long time
we were paid
for answers.

Know the syntax.
Know the fix.
Know the thing
the other person
did not know.

That market
is closing.

The machine
knows the syntax now.

It knows the fix,
most of the time,

and it will answer
faster than you
can finish
typing the question.

So the answer
is getting cheap.

Watch where the value goes
when a thing gets cheap.

It goes
one level up.

To the question.

Because a machine
can answer anything

but it cannot decide
what is worth asking.

It waits.

It waits for you
to point,

and where you point
is the whole job now.

The right question
is worth
a thousand answers,

because it aims
all of them.

The wrong question,
answered perfectly,
is just
a beautiful road
to the wrong town.

So build the muscle
the machine
does not have.

The taste
to ask
what actually matters.

The courage
to ask
the obvious thing
everyone was
too proud
to raise.

The patience
to sit
in the unclear

long enough
to find
the real question
under the loud one.

Answers
will keep getting cheaper.

Curiosity
will not.

Judgment
will not.

The knack
for walking into fog
and asking
the one question
that clears it

will not.

Stop rushing
to have the answer.

Everyone will have
the answer.

Be the one
in the room
who knew
which question
was worth
asking
in the first place.

That skill
has no version number,

and nothing yet
has learned
to take it
from you.
