TabWise 2.5.0: Better Multi-Window Tab Management

If you regularly work with multiple browser windows, you know how quickly tabs can get out of hand.

Finding a specific tab, moving it between windows, or figuring out which tabs you haven't used in days can become surprisingly frustrating.

I've been working on making that experience better in TabWise, and version 2.5.0 is now live.

Here's what's new.

1. Manage tabs across multiple windows

You can now switch between viewing tabs in the current window and viewing tabs across all open windows.

There's also a small UI improvement: windows containing just one tab are displayed as a single row instead of being unnecessarily expanded.

2. Move tabs between windows

You can move a tab to another existing window or create a new window directly from the tab menu.

No need to manually drag tabs around.

3. Find and clean up inactive tabs

TabWise now gives you a dedicated list of inactive tabs.

Choose an inactivity period:

  • 1 day
  • 3 days
  • 7 days
  • 14 days

From there, you can close inactive tabs or put them to sleep to reduce memory usage.

Pinned and important tabs are excluded from cleanup.

4. Smarter duplicate detection

Duplicate URLs are now detected even when they contain tracking parameters.

For example, URLs with different tracking query parameters or HTTP/HTTPS variations can be recognised as duplicates.

5. A cleaner side panel

A few smaller improvements make the interface less cluttered:

  • Tab groups are displayed as rows.
  • Close buttons appear on hover.
  • White favicons are now visible in light mode.
  • Fixed pin icon alignment when tab titles change.

What's next?

I'm continuing to improve TabWise based on real usage and feedback.

The goal is simple: make managing browser tabs less of a distraction.

TabWise is free, open-source, and runs directly in the Chrome side panel.

If you try it, I'd love to hear what works, what doesn't, and what you'd like to see next.
