Just wondering if anyone has any insight into a 5 year roadmap. Was asked recently in an interview and I didn't have a question. I'm a junior backend dev, and have been for about 3 years. Would love any guidelines for a career plan.

The 5 years roadmap will be different for everyone of us! What will you do with the responses then? Live the life of someone else?

I’m not sure I agree with that question being posed to a junior level anyone - that’s a better suited question for someone who’s had a year or two of experience under their belt.
Why a couple years? It allows you to validate the role you’re in. No point in telling you I want to climb the ladder to the top if I fail out shortly after joining.
Every situation is different...with 3 years, probably you need more "flight hours" to choose what part of backend dev you want to do, if you want to continue doing backend dev. That's a valid choice too.
To answer your question, I'd paraphrase Brent Ozar's answer in one of his AMA's (Find him in YouTube, he's a SQL Server guy, but he answers career questions too): find someone you admire and want to do what he does and list the things you need to learn or put in your CV that will get you there...

Hey, three years is quite a number, you should have something in mind after tinkering with backends for all this time. If no, try something like that, may be helpful, but you need to put the accents yourself. In the end, it’s your own way and only you can define if this journey gonna be fun and satisfying or boring and torturous.
