3. reduce()

This can be handy for looping through a list and keeping track of the current index, or it can be used to create a list of tuples with the index and element as independent components.

Here's an example of how to use enumerate() to iterate through a list of strings and print the index and element:

for i, theword in enumerate(thewords):

You can also provide a beginning index as a parameter to enumerate(). For example:

5. filter()

The filter() function gives a filter object that only has the elements from the input iterable that return True when passed to a given function.

Here's an example of how to use filter() to extract only the even values from a list of integers:

evens = filter(is_even, numbers)
