If you’ve been looking for software engineering or tech roles recently, you’ve probably noticed a frustrating trend:job searching has become a full-time job itself. Despite having dozens of platforms, AI-assisted resume builders, and instant-apply buttons, finding the right job feels more fragmented than ever.
As someone constantly analyzing career platforms and digital products, I decided to break down why the current system causes candidate burnout—and what we're doing to solve it.
The 3 Big Pain Points of Modern Job Searching
- Platform Fragmentation Openings are scattered across regional portals, corporate career pages, and specialized boards. If you're looking for remote roles or opportunities in different countries, you quickly end up managing 30+ open browser tabs.
- The "Ghost Job" & Expiry Problem A huge chunk of listings on major boards are either expired, duplicates scraped from other platforms, or internal listings that aren't actually accepting external candidates.
- Middleman Friction Many aggregators redirect you through 3 different third-party affiliate networks before you even get to see the actual job description or employer application form.
To address this friction, we’ve been working on TalentMediator — a job search aggregator built with candidate UX as the primary focus. Instead of trying to be another noisy social network for recruiters, our goal is straightforward: clean up the discovery process.
How it works under the hood:
- Aggregated Global & Regional Feeds: We gather active vacancies across different international markets into a single, unified interface.
- Direct Paths: We strip away unnecessary middleman redirects, taking candidates directly to verified employer listings.
- Noise Reduction: Filtering out duplicate posts so you don't see the exact same opening 5 times from different recruitment agencies.
We are actively refining the platform, optimizing how we aggregate multi-regional data, and improving the filtering experience.
Since the Dev.to community is full of active developers and tech professionals who deal with job boards regularly, I’d love to get your honest feedback:
- What is your single biggest pet peeve when using modern job aggregators?
- If you could add one filter or feature to a job search platform, what would it be?
