Yo! what's up guys ๐๐ป
Every developer๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ป has a different environment where ideas turn into code.
Some developers have high-end workstations, multiple monitors, and perfectly customized setups. Others build amazing things with a simple laptop and a few essential tools.
At the end of the day, a setup is not about how expensive it is. It's about how it helps you learn, build, experiment, and create.
Today, let's share our developer setups with the community๐ซ
Tell us about yours:
๐ป Hardware
- What machine do you use for development?
- Laptop or desktop?
- Any accessories that improve your workflow?
โ๏ธ Development Environment
- Which editor or IDE do you use?
- Your favorite extensions, themes, or tools?
- What does your daily coding workflow look like?
๐ ๏ธ Tools That Help You Build
- Terminal setup
- Productivity tools
- AI tools
- Anything that makes development easier
I'll start:
My setup is pretty simple.
๐ป Main development machine: A Mac that I use for most of my coding work.
๐ป Backup machine: A 5-year-old Lenovo laptop that has been part of my learning journey, experiments, and projects.
๐ฎ Gaming setup: I also have a gaming PC, but I mainly use it for gaming rather than development.
I don't have the most expensive setup or a studio-like workspace, but these tools have helped me learn, build, and keep improving.
A developer setup doesn't need to be perfect. Sometimes a simple machine, curiosity, and consistency are enough to create something great.

pc: a little old hardware
os: linux mint
code editor: vs code (light theme: Quiet Light, dark theme: GitHub dark dimmed)
notes: Simplenote (for quick stuff), hackmd (for notes and docs)
I use zram for more ram!
Thats all!
I really like your idea of having a separate machine for gaming!๐๏ธ
Mine's pretty simple. I use a Mac with VS Code for development, Notion to organize notes and ideas, Google Docs for writing, and Google Calendar to keep everything on track. It's not the fanciest setup, but it works well for how I like to learn and build ๐
Mac Mini for me (better value for money, and I don't need a "mobile" setup, I'm never taking it anywhere), and one very basic monitor (not really a large one) - but (I value that highly) an ergonomic keyboard ...
Software setup equally simple - VSCode, "vi", and for the rest doing a lot in the terminal ... less is more!
P.S. nice idea, curious about other people's setups as well ...
Splitting between work and home: ๐ข๐
At work: ๐ผ Lenovo laptop + a desktop running Ubuntu with Jenkins for all kinds of test scripts. ๐ค
At home: ๐ก A Colorfire Orange Cat laptop ๐ฑ with an RTX 4070S โ mainly for AAA gaming ๐ฎ and running local small models. ๐ง
AI assistant: Deployed on the Orange Cat. Special shoutout to Hermes ๐ค โ I'm almost inseparable from it at this point. Tuned it just right, paired with a local memory system I built myself. ๐ ๏ธ Even when I'm away from the desk, I get tons of work done chatting with Hermes on my phone during the commute. ๐ฑโจ
Gaming gear: ๐ฎ Nintendo Switch โ the ultimate device for making the most of those short fragmented moments of free time. ๐๐ฅ
Just a Windows laptop, VS Code, and lots of coffee. โ
Currently learning Flutter and building StudyTree. Simple setup, but it works for me.
I love dark mode and the portability of my laptop, but I still have a soft spot for clean, cozy desk setups
I also love the dark mode
