I’m Learning to Code from Scratch: My 5-Year Roadmap to Becoming a Bio-Data Scientist

Hello, DEV community! 👋

I’m starting a journey that feels like running a marathon in a race where I’ve already been lapped. I don’t have a degree, I don’t have a fortune, and I am starting from absolute zero. But I have a clear vision: to bridge the gap between Data Science and Microbiology to conduct research in the United States.

Why am I here? Modern biological breakthroughs are no longer just in the lab; they happen at the intersection of biology and code. To fund my dream and build a global career, I am teaching myself Python, Data Science, and SQL.

1. The Foundation: Currently mastering English and preparing for the GED exam to unlock international education opportunities.

2. The Skillset: I am building my technical foundation from scratch. I’m documenting every line of code, every struggle with documentation, and every breakthrough in my personal roadmap.

3. The Launchpad: Argentina is my strategic first step. It’s where I’ll gain international experience, immerse myself in a new culture, and build the professional network necessary for my next move.

4. The Destination: Ultimately, I aim to pursue advanced studies in Microbiology in the USA, contributing to data-driven scientific discovery.

Why I’m sharing this publicly: There is a lot of advice online for people who are already established. But there is very little for those who are starting from the very bottom, facing limitations, and doing the “invisible work” to pivot their lives. I believe in building in public.

What I’m working on right now:

• Python: Moving from basics to data structures.
• Data Science: Learning how to clean and analyze datasets.
• English: Daily practice to ensure I can navigate international scientific environments.
