Weather and World Clocks on Every Firefox New Tab — Why I Built This

The Problem: Remote Teams and Weather

I work with people in 4 time zones. Every morning involves the same ritual: what time is it in Berlin? Is it before or after their lunch?

And for weather: I'd check a weather site at the start of every morning, then forget to check again before committing to outdoor plans.

These are 10-second information needs. They shouldn't require tab switching.

Weather & Clock Dashboard

Weather & Clock Dashboard is a Firefox extension that replaces your new tab page with current weather, a 5-day forecast, and multiple world clocks.

What it shows:

  • Current conditions (temperature, humidity, wind)
  • 5-day forecast
  • Up to 6 world clocks with city names
  • Date and local time

Uses your location for weather (browser geolocation, no account needed).

The World Clocks Feature

This was the main reason I built it. I wanted clocks for specific cities — not just "UTC+2" but "Berlin", "Tel Aviv", "San Francisco" — labeled by name.

I open a new tab, glance at the clocks, know immediately whether my Berlin colleague is in their afternoon or already done for the day.

Weather at a Glance

I keep the weather visible so I can plan during the day without stopping to check. Before leaving for a walk: one new tab, see the temperature and rain chance, decide on a jacket. 5 seconds.

Privacy

No account. Location data stays local — the extension uses your browser's geolocation API, which asks permission before accessing location. The weather query goes to a public API using coordinates, not your name or profile.

No analytics, no tracking, no cloud storage.

New Tab as Information Surface

Every new tab opened is a touchpoint. Most browsers default to history tiles or sponsored content. This extension turns each new tab into a useful display — information you'd check anyway, now visible passively.

Free Firefox extension. No account required.
