Before You Turn Off Your Meta Ads After a Dead Week Check Which of Three Things Happened

帖子

Two great days on Meta, then a dead week. Before you pause everything, put Shopify orders next to Meta's purchases.

Both down after an edit: learning reset, wait. Only Meta down: tracking broke. Both down, CTR falling: new angles.

Two great days on Meta, then a dead week. Check this before you turn the ads off.

Saturday and Sunday did 4x. By Thursday you've had three days with one sale between them, on the same ads and the same budget, and you're one bad morning away from pausing the whole account.

You're not imagining it. I've been reading r/FacebookAds all year and this is the most common complaint there. One owner in April: "1-2 good days followed by entire week of nothing, which eats the cash that the 1-2 good days made." Someone running a fashion brand replied that they get 1–3 normal days and then "a complete collapse, usually 3-4 days and repeat." Those are individual owners, not data on Meta as a whole.

The trouble is that a dead week in Ads Manager comes from three different places, and each one needs the opposite fix. Turning everything off helps with one of them and makes the other two worse.

First: open Shopify, not Ads Manager

For the last 14 days, write down Shopify orders, sessions from Meta, add-to-carts, reached checkout, and what Meta reports as purchases. Compare 7 days to 7 days. Meta counts purchases up to 7 days after a click, so the last few days in Ads Manager are never finished.

Then compare the two lines.

1. Both drop, right after you changed something

That's usually the learning phase. Meta says an ad set needs roughly 50 optimization events within 7 days of its last significant edit before it settles, and adding an ad, changing the budget a lot, or switching the optimization event all count as edits. At 4 sales a day you're always near that line.

Do: wait 3–5 days, batch your edits, raise budget in steps.
Don't: duplicate the ad set "to reset it" (the copy starts from zero), or pause it all and restart next week (7+ days paused means learning again).

If CPM jumped across every ad set on the same day and you changed nothing, check https://metastatus.com/ and don't make decisions off that day.

2. Shopify is fine, Meta's purchases fell off a cliff

That's tracking. In January a newer advertiser posted that after a Meta outage they had 9 sales in the store and Meta recorded 5. Their dashboard ROAS went from 5.0 to 0.8.

Other usual suspects: a new theme, a checkout app, a post-purchase page, or a checkout on another domain that stops the Purchase event firing.

Do: check the Purchase event by day in Events Manager, place a real test order on your phone through an ad link, and judge on total revenue ÷ total spend while it's broken.
Don't: kill ads that Shopify says are selling.

3. Both drop, nothing changed, CTR falling and frequency rising

That one's real: the creative is worn out, or demand dipped. If email and organic orders dropped too, it's demand, and Meta isn't the cause.

If it's the creative, new ads are the fix, and they have to be actually different. A buyer who says he manages $400k+ a month put it this way: the "5% we can still control" is "creative velocity + diversity." Ten re-cuts of one video still look like one ad. A new pain point or a new opening line reaches new people.

Two habits

Keep a change log. Most "Meta broke" weeks start the day after an edit nobody wrote down.

Watch the total weekly: revenue, ad spend, MER, new customers, cash. Not daily ROAS.

Sometimes it really is Meta and nothing fixes a bad week. The point is not to turn a two-day wobble into a two-week reset by pulling the account apart in the middle of it.

Do this week

Fill in the 14-day table before you touch anything. Twenty minutes, and you'll know which of the three you're in.

If it's case 3 and you can't make new angles fast enough, that's what I built AutoWhisper for: each batch is videos on different angles, not copies of one. A full video is 52 credits and new accounts get 65 free. Ads it builds in Meta start paused; you decide when they go live and what they spend.
