Cold calling is hard. AI does not make it easy — but it makes the preparation 10x faster.
Here are 5 prompts I use before and after cold calls.
1. Research in 60 seconds
I am about to cold call a [Role] at [Company] in [Industry].
Give me:
- 2 likely business pain points
- 1 recent industry trend they probably care about
- 1 question to open the conversation naturally
2. Craft the opening line
The first 10 seconds decide everything.
I am calling [Company] to introduce [product].
The prospect is a [Role].
Their likely pain: [X].
Write a 15-second opening that hooks them — not salesy, just human.
3. Prepare for the top 3 objections
I sell [product] to [type of company].
What are the 3 most common objections I will face?
For each, give me a one-sentence response that sounds natural, not scripted.
4. Reflect after a rejection
Instead of moving on immediately:
I just got rejected on a cold call. They said: [exact words].
What might have caused this objection?
What could I have said differently?
Give me 2 alternative approaches for next time.
5. Plan the follow-up sequence
I just had a 5-minute cold call with [Name] at [Company].
Outcome: they seemed [interested / neutral / skeptical].
Plan a 3-touch follow-up sequence over 2 weeks.
Include: what to say, when to contact, which channel (email or call).
The Mindset Shift
Most salespeople treat ChatGPT as a content tool. Use it as a thinking partner instead.
Before a tough call: use it to prepare.
After a rejection: use it to debrief.
Before a follow-up: use it to plan.
