For Empowering Community

Welcome to the Forem codebase, the platform that powers dev.to. We are so excited to have you. With your help, we can build out Foremโ€™s usability, scalability, and stability to better serve our communities.

What is Forem?

Forem is open source software for building communities. Communities for your peers, customers, fanbases, families, friends, and any other time and space where people need to come together to be part of a collective See our announcement post for a high-level overview of what Forem is.

dev.to (or just DEV) is hosted by Forem. It is a community of software developers who write articles, take part in discussions, and build their professional profiles. We value supportive and constructive dialogue in the pursuit of great code and career growth for all members. The ecosystem spans from beginner to advanced developers, and all are welcome to find their placeโ€ฆ

The code that powers DEV is now located at here, in the forem repo within the forem org.

There are no code updates, besides the other updates which happened to go in today, but we're getting that much closer to having all the little things in place to enable the whole ecosystem to start growing.

Here was the Forem announcement post in case you haven't been paying attention to my continued references to Forem in the past few weeks... ๐Ÿ˜„

Happy community building โค๏ธ

I saw this earlier today but I didn't realize that forem/forem is the new repo name for thepracticaldev/dev.to until just now, when I clicked through a link in a blog post I'm working on. Redirects beautifully!

And congrats! ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฑ

Had the same doubt but your comment helped. Cheers on the move to empower the community that in turn contributes back to the dev.to platform, Ben!

PS: If it helps, should Github searches for Dev.to now show the rebranded Forem repo herewith?

@ben now if we want to contribute to DEV, do we fork and contribute to Forem?

Yup. DEV is 100% running a configuration of Forem.

Gotcha. I was a bit worry because I have a Trello board with links to issues I'd like to contribute to. Thought the URL were gonna break but they didn't ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ
