I Built a Free Invoice Generator That Runs in the Browser

Freelancers do not need another SaaS account to send an invoice. They need a clean PDF and a way to make it in two minutes.

I built a small invoice generator that runs entirely in the browser:

  • add client and line items
  • set tax and currency
  • preview the invoice
  • print or save as PDF
  • no login, no upload

Try it: https://www.mengstone.com/invoice/

What it does not do

It is not accounting software. It does not file taxes, store invoices, or process payments. It just makes the document.

Why browser-only

Invoice data is boring but sensitive. Keeping it local means there is no server to breach and no account to cancel. The trade-off is that there is no sync or history.

If you send a few invoices a month, that trade-off is usually fine.

Keeping invoices strictly client-side is the right call for privacy, especially when dealing with tax IDs and banking details.

If you are generating the PDF via the browser's native print dialog, two small CSS tweaks save a lot of headaches on multi-item invoices. Adding break-inside avoid to table rows stops long descriptions from splitting across page breaks. Combining that with @page margin 15mm in your print stylesheet keeps the layout clean and strips default browser header URLs.

Stashing the current form fields in localStorage with a one-click reset button also helps freelancers avoid losing an itemized draft if their tab refreshes, while keeping everything strictly local.
