What are the best methods to reduce chlorine impact on skin and hair?

Lately every time I get out of the pool my skin feels like sandpaper and my hair looks like it lost a fight with a tumble‑dryer. I love swimming and don’t wanna give it up, but the chlorine is doing me dirty. I’ve tried basic conditioner and lotion but it’s not cutting it. I’m starting to look like a lizard wearing a brittle wig. If anyone’s got tricks, products, routines, grandma’s secrets, literally anything to keep my skin and hair from drying out and breaking, I’m all ears. I just wanna enjoy my laps without molting afterward.

Saw this thread and couldn’t resist adding something that’s helped me a lot: I rinse off before swimming so my skin and hair soak up clean water first, which seems to cut down the chlorine absorption. I also switched to a vitamin C spray after swimming, and it made a big difference. Curious if anyone else has tried homemade vitamin C rinses or found a good store‑bought one.

Switching to filtered water made a real difference for my skin, and the one I grabbed from afina was super easy to install. I noticed fewer breakouts and my hair stopped feeling so dry after a couple of weeks. The replacement filters are simple to swap too, so it doesn’t turn into another chore.

I rinse off before swimming, then shower right after and use a simple moisturizer on skin while it’s still damp. For hair, I wet it first and add a bit of conditioner as a barrier.
