What's in your podcast rotation right now?

Curious what everyone is listening to for podcasts these days, whether it be technical or not. I've been listening to Joe Rogan lately. They're long, but he has interesting guests from all walks of life. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but I've been enjoying his podcast. Update 2020: I had only listened to a few of his podcast episodes but did not realize in other episodes that I had not listened to, they were causing harm and danger to folks. So definitely off my podcast list.

I also recently discovered the Script & Style podcast with Todd Gardner and David Walsh. Not sure why this one hadn't already popped up on my radar.

So what are you folks all listening to these days?

The Developer Weekly podcast. This is a nice and light developer-focused podcast with all sorts of topics, including soft skills.

I see many people listen to all the great developer podcasts. I find it's hard to listen to them while working because they take some concentration (except Front End Happy Hour which is all light and fluffy and doesn't require concentration :) )

I'm of big fan of Revisionist History by Malcolm Gladwell, he hasn't put any out recently, but if you haven't heard his stuff, it's "History", so still timely.

Also Brain Food podcast sometimes.

I won't repeat the ones already posted, as there are some great ones (Syntax, Darknet Diaries, Developer Tea). You might consider checking out Code Story (codestory.co), to hear stories from tech leaders about how they took an idea from the back of a napkin to MVP to launch.

I launched a site called onepodcast.xyz that will send out 1 episode, 1x week! It gets a little crazy finding new podcasts sometimes, by signing up to the newsletter you'll get a new episode delivered weekly with no work.

onePodcast will allow folks to discover podcasts on a weekly basis from small to large creators.

Joe Rogan (and his podcast) very directly resulted in one of my best friends getting death threats for months, so I recoil every time I see him on any suggested list. Here's what I've been listening to:

  • Tights and Fights, aka the perfect wrestling podcast. I love wrestling and they are so, so funny.
  • To Live and Die in LA - a true crime podcast about a girl who goes missing, no surprise. It's a deep dive into this one crime, and the twists just keep coming.

That is unfortunate and I hope none of them materialized. I wouldn't rule Joe's podcast out completely though. Some of his guests are really engaging and informative when they get to his long form casual platform, and you get a full picture of them that you can't get through the normal mediums.

Thanks but honestly if I'm interested in any of his guests I'll find a way to get information that doesn't reward his toxicity with my clicks or listens.

For the last couple of days, purely by coincidence because that's the way their publication schedule works, it's been mostly sports podcasts:

  • Super League Pod (mostly English rugby league)
  • Chasing Kangaroos (global rugby league)
  • Brian Moore's Full Contact (rugby union)
  • Stumped (global cricket)
  • LGBT Sport Podcast

that last one is worth a listen for normal people too, not just LGBTQALPHABETSOUPs, as the people they interview are worth listening to anyway.

The non-sport podcasts I've listened to today are:

  • Live From Lord North Street (Liberal politics)
  • Lexicon Valley (linguistics)

I don't listen to any computery podcasts. There used to be a good one whose name I can't remember about software quality and testing, but the vast majority of those out there appear to be just about the latest tedious Javascript fad.
