GitHub is amazing! And it does help you find a job in more ways than you'd think - for example, our startup has built a platform where you can connect your profile to GH and it gives you an overview of your progress as a developer. Plus, you can set your profile to "actively looking for work" to get matched with jobs.
Anyways, yes, version control is SO important and GH does a great job in helping you manage code changes and errors, especially for large codebases. A must-have for new and experienced devs :)
Cheers! ~AD

I purged a bunch of repos from my Github because I realized how bad that code was. Not sure if it was a good or a bad decision.

I would say it was a good decision since if that code was not of any help, good to clear out the clutter!
