Stickers are for sale now shop.dev.to/products/sticker-pack

The sticker pack, including the member badge sticker, come with one of the membership tiers as well. There will definitely be future sticker love showered upon members as well. We have many additional follow-ups for each membership benefit as we work it out.

We got our first membership signup before this post was made. Probably when the link went live in the home page sidebar. That's a good sign 😊

I seriously cannot wait to keep building community and building features for y'all. Open source coming soon too, promise!

Never been happier to throw money at a community. I hope this ends up being as well-funded as it deserves to be. <3

I think you should change the membership levels to be powers of 2. 20, 23, 25, 210

Not taking Paypal? Don't have a credit card.

We wanted to keep our payment process simple at launch in order to ensure everything was secure and bug-free, but if you email members@dev.to we could probably process your payment and assign your membership manually. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm incredibly excited about the new initiatives we have planned β€” both for new sustaining members, and for the platform as a whole. Thanks so much for being a part of this amazing community.

What is the transaction fee for you for $1 payment?

We're using Stripe, so it's significant at that level. That said, we wanted to make sure we made the first membership tier as affordable and accessible as possible.

We might give this another thought someday if it proves to be a major pain-point (IE asking members if we can charge multiple months all at once).

It's possible that we'll be able to bill at a different interval rate than every month for that level. It's not set up that way yet because we didn't want to over-engineer our process before launch, but in the long-term there are solutions.

Super happy for y'all, glad to see you rolling this out!

Would love to see some sort of "State of the Community" post detailing the history of growth, post-volume, traffic, etc. (IDK why I thought of that here, but I did).

We'll be getting back in the rhythm of releasing our "Monthly Reports." The new-year/January "report" was sort of wrapped up in our What to Expect post but we'll be continuing those posts each month.

For the workshops, which I'm assuming are online--are they going to be saved at all? I suppose what I'm really asking is: say someone gets the $25/mo membership, and isn't available the day/time of the workshop. Are they screencasted or saved somehow so that person could go through it later, or are they just out of luck for that one?

Yes they will be. Thanks for the question.

Gonna add a banner or popup on a semi-annual basis like Wikipedia? Like a web version of the NPR pledge drives.

Well... maybe, who knows. But we mostly plan to keep adding more value to the memberships over time. Initially we're reaching out for support from those who believe in what we're up to, but in the future I think we'll also be able to point to the tangible benefits. We expect that once we start putting on these workshops (which are going to rock), people will find more reasons to sign up on an ongoing basis. So I think we're different from Wikipedia in that sense.

If I sign up for the $25/mo option, and then decide to downgrade after about 3 months, and there is a workshop on the 5th month, does this mean that I do not get access to the workshop?

Just got my first paycheck at a new job! Tried to pay +12 but got this "ERROR This customer has no attached payment source". Is there a link to take 1 time donations?

Collapse

jess profile image

Hi Jen! We're not currently taking one-time donations right now. If you were planning on doing $12 you could do $1/mo for the year, or $12/mo and cancel next month!
