Join us for The Pinata Challenge: $3,000 in Prizes!

We are so excited to team up with Pinata to bring you our next DEV challenge.

Running through October 13, the Pinata Challenge provides an opportunity to certify your skills, win cash prizes, and gain experience working with The Internet’s File API – “Easier than S3 and lightning fast!”

We have one prompt for this challenge, but there are three chances to win. Read on to learn more!

The Prompt: Fun with Files

Your mandate is to build an application that integrates file uploads with Pinata’s Files API in order to create a delightful file-driven user experience. Our prompt is broad, which means there are lots of creative and interesting ways to take this challenge.

Files can be anything: images, documents, videos, what can you think of?

For a bit more guidance, here is what the judges will be looking for:

  • Creativity
  • Performance (pro tip: leverage Pinata’s CDN and Image Optimization)
  • Use of Underlying Technology
  • Usability and User Experience
  • Accessibility

Fun fact: Web3 developers love using Pinata, so dApps are welcome as well!

Here is the submission template for anyone that wants to jump right in, but please review all challenge rules on the official challenge page before submitting.

Good luck folks! I think this represents an interesting opportunity to dip your toes into IPFS in a way that still mostly just feels like the file structures you're used to.

I'm very intrigued by Pinata.

Hey guys, I have a question. In my team, there are 2 people who are UI/UX designers, and I am a developer.

So, to participate as a team, do my team members also need to register an account on dev.to? How will this process work?

Hey @jacksonkasi, they don't have to register for a DEV account unless they would like to have earn badges. We do not handle prize splitting, so whoever submits the project would receive the entire prize.

Hey guys, I have a question:

How do we handle file access control with Pinata API while using normal storage (not IPFS)? like sharing the file with another user and managing the permissions.

Is this a challenge a legitimate person can actually compete in or is this another thing, where 10 people from India will create a group and just make a huge project out of it?
