The breadth and depth of things that are to learn about in software development can be overwhelming. I say this not to discourage ya, but rather to let you know that you're not alone in this feeling. The good news is it gets better β if you stick with it your skills will grow, you'll find supportive people that want to assist you, and I know it can be super rewarding!
All this said, I'm not a dev personally, but am a Community Manager for DEV... so, if for some reason you find out that software development isn't for you, there are other ways to get into this industry and make a positive impact.

Hey John, I just recently signed up here as well. I'm also an Elixir developer (well in my free time at least) and love the language, and Phoenix was one of the things that drew me in. The only front-end framework I had used prior was React, and I'm not a huge fan. Phoenix is a pleasure to work with, although in general I don't write web apps all that much. Outside of Phoenix, what Elixir libraries do you find yourself using?

I'm a software developer with a focus in machine learning and data science, but really enjoy a lot of different fields. I have recently been contributing to the open-source Elixir Machine Learning community with a couple of Decision-Tree libraries.
It was my first foray into open-source contributions and I have really been enjoying it. The feedback I have gotten throughout the process has given me in 6 short months the equivalent of much of my formal education and has been very rewarding.
