In my case, Obsidian is a game-changer. It allows me to organize my daily tasks, keep a journal of all my activities, organize the content for every customer, takes notes of each meeting I have, and have a place to store my ideas.

I know Obsidian is not a development-related tool but it increased my effectiveness and I became more efficient.

An important time gain recently was using Beeper: all my conversations are gathered in one application (WhatsApp / Instagram / Messenger / Signal)

  • ✅ I'm not missing messages anymore
  • 🔊 I can mute everyone
  • 🗑️ I can move conversations into a "Low Priority" section so that I can answer later (like a week later).
  • 🍒 Icing on the cake: I don't have to open Instagram anymore with the infinite scrolling doom, and I can still talk to all my friends.

I tried Beeper out a little while ago, and like other systems before it (trillian, bitlbee, pidgin, etc.) I found it didn't do what I wanted while at the same time becoming one single point of failure/frustration. Instead of a feature I don't like being annoying in one messaging app, now it's annoying in all of them!

It means I have to trust yet another third party, and since it won't support all the chat systems I use, I'll still have to go to other apps anyway.

Yes, it's annoying when chat networks are down... but I believe they will make the scaling and communication stable over time. In the background, I still have all native chat apps installed (and muted) if Beeper goes down.

Yes, Beeper is available and synchronised on IOS and Android :)

I didn't know about Ferdium, it is similar to Franz, thank you!

Ferdium is Franz but much better. Open source and supports many more services.

I joined the waiting list for beeper. Hopefully I can get in :)

Alfred is the one thing that has revolutionized the way I used Mac OS since one year.

Alfred brings a command palette interface to Mac OS, exactly like what you have in VS Code, IntelliJ, the shell, vim, ...

You are missing out if you like command palette interfaces in general but are still doing MacOS by point & click & drag & drop

You have to see it in action though, I just made a screecast here

I gotta jump on this post to say HELL YES. My boss at Oracle in 2022 introduced me to Alfred and it's been an invaluable addition to my macOS life. It's to the point where if I'm on someone else's system and I hit the activation key combo and nothing happens, I immediately think, Okay, WTF?! Every macOS user here should watch Jean-Michel's video and then branch off into other stuff on YouTube so you get a full feel for the utility of Alfred.

Thanks a lot !
Feel free to share the link in Slack / Discord
The embedded preview comes with it and it's very efficient to get people interested :)

Using Ditto clipboard manager helps me a lot when dealing with lots of data to be copied and pasted. I can trigger lots of ctrl + C and then just open Ditto's and all my content is listed. It works much better than Windows default Clipboard Manager and saves a lot more entries.

As a front-ender, I also love some Visual Studio Code extensions:

  • Auto Close Tag: Automatically adds HTML/XML close tags;
  • Auto Rename Tag: Automatically renames paired HTML/XML tag
  • CSS Peek: Allows peeking and going to css ID and class strings as definitions from html files to respective CSS;
  • Duplicate action: Duplicates files and folders;
  • JSON to TS: Converts JSON object (from selection or clipboard) to typescript interfaces;
  • px to rem: Converts px to rem, and vice versa;
  • Todo Tree: Shows TODO, FIXME, etc. comment tags in a tree view

My favourite tool or extension is Open Multiple URLs

Since i write on multiple blogging platforms like LinkedIn | Dev.to | Hashnode | Newsletter | C# Programming

So when I want to open all the platforms at once, I use the aforementioned extension.

Simply add the URLs as shown below and click the "Open URLs" button.

Apart from that, I use GitHub Desktop | Visual Studio Code

When I want to do this in Chrome, I save all the pages to their own bookmarks folder. That lets me organise them, and I can right-click and say "open all in tabs" if I want to. It's how I start different projects when I switch contexts at work. Chrome also supports tab groups now so you can close them all at once as well.

Sure, I agree, but I've been doing this for a long time...! It's almost like a habit now.

ClickUp has been a game-changer for wrangling my creative chaos into order. It's effortlessly adaptable from minimalist to feature-packed to match your vibe. It lets you streamline your projects, deadlines, and brainwaves. It helps me stay on top of everything without losing my notes (or my mind).

Been a user of vscodium + obsidian + firefox + TKL keyboard until I migrated to Doom Emacs + firefox. I like the point that I could refer to the notes, add or refer agenda right out of the code editor. My company has some projects that lsp in emacs do not build. I use IntelliJ in those cases. Otherwise, I am back home to emacs.

Idea Intellij IDE. Its so much better than vscode. Refactoring just works especially in comparison to vscode, where if you rename a folder everything breaks.
