My office doesn't officially do anything, but I know some teams did a potluck and some people put out candy jars for the day, while other people dressed up (subtly).
Some things I did for the spirit of the season:
- Decorated my cubicle with orang string lights
- Set out sour candies for anyone walking by
- Put together personalized treat bags for each person on my team with candy, bubbles, glow sticks, stickers, and googly eyes in them
- Made extra bags of good stuff to hand out to people walking by
- Wore branded stuff so if someone asked about a costume, I was in one, but it is just kinda casual cosplay for the workplace
Bubbles are fantastic because you can blow them at the curmudgeons who are determined to not have fun! :D
As it's my favorite time of year, did anyone else do anything? I'd love to hear stories! AskAManager has a post on workplace horror stories, but fun ones are great, too!

The SRE team at my office (which I’m kind of on? It’s complicated) all got individualized “error code” T-shirts (with made up or slightly inaccurate errors) and wore them together today. They were very cute and full of lots of in jokes.
Halloween isn't really a 'thing' in my country but the Customer Services (and the American team members in the building) did a costume competition that had a few people participate.
The instructional team dressed up as JavaScript bugs! I was undefined! Didn't get great pictures though :(
I managed to convince everyone to change their names on slack to something spooky. No party 😔
We had a party in the cafe, with fake skeletons, fake coffins, snacks, glowsticks, etc. I really enjoyed that 😂
There was an after work party with costumes and stuff last Friday. Unfortunately I was sick, so I don't know if it was any good.
I had 3 hours of meetings. That was very scary...
We were a bit too scattered with other things these past few days to do much.
This was about it:
That's still something! 🎃
