Now Awarding Badges to Elevate Top Discussions πŸ’¬πŸ’₯

Coming back at you with some badge updates!

We got three new badges to announce here: one is brand new, while the other two have been revived and updated from previous badges. We'll check out all three below!

1. A brand new badge for #discuss πŸ—£

This badge awards the top weekly post in the #discuss tag.

To be clear, the #discuss badge is auto-rewarded to folks who create the most liked #discuss post of the week. That said, the post also must have a feature score greater than 100; feature score is calculated by how many likes and comments a post has, as well as if a post has been upvoted/downvoted by mods.

2. A fresh coat of paint for Beloved Comment! 🎨

Awarded for making a well-loved comment, as voted on with 25 likes (❀️) by the community.

This is another auto-rewarded badge that never really left, but we just recently redesigned it. The Beloved Comment badge is given out to those who have a comment with β‰₯ 25 likes. That said, if your comment is downvoted by mods or reported and found to be inappropriate, it will be removed from the running. We made that decision because we don't want to reward comments that are overly spicy or potentially abusive. So, please remember to keep it kind and classy out there!

3. The Discussion of the Week is back! πŸ™Œ

Awarded for starting a discussion that was featured in the "Discussion of the Week" series. πŸ™Œ

Each Thursday, we pick out a different discussion to feature in the Discussion of the Week series. These articles aren't chosen based on metrics, but instead, we curate what we believe to be the most thoughtful, helpful, and/or interesting discussion over the past 7 days! Whoever's post we feature is granted the Top Discussion of the Week badge.

Why did we create these badges?

Similar to many of our recently released badges, we created these three to encourage positive discussions across the community. We want to reward those folks who are helping to initiate discussions and leaving particularly thoughtful comments.

As always, we welcome your thoughts and feedback! If you have any ideas for badges that you think we should add or actions you feel would be worthy of rewarding, don't hesitate to share your thoughts in this post.

Cheers,
The DEV Team

The new version of the Beloved Comment badge fits better thematically with the other discussion related badges.
