It's weekly retro time!

Looking back, what was something you're proud of?

All wins count -- big or small!

Examples of 'wins' include:

  • Getting to all your meetings on time
  • Starting a new project
  • Fixing a tricky bug
  • Cleaning your house...or whatever else that may spark joy 😄 🎉

This week, I fully set up my home office!

Not a gif but...

I might be imagining things, but it looks like an old sewing machine table, e.g. a Singer one, though a bit hard to tell from this angle.

This week, I.... Made first commit to github after 6 years in industry!

Nice! First times for certain events come at all different paces and different orders in our industry.

I'm from Semiconductors Industry, so working for chips where everyone speaks Electricity while you (I am) have a software specialization, yes it's pretty hard to make other commit(ment)s :)) ^^

This/Last week, I landed a job as an SRE at elastic.co! WHOO!

Bonus win: Cleaned up an old desktop and now I have a home server to run... something :P

whoa, congratulations!! That's a big win!!

WOOHOO Elastic!!!! They just published a blog of mine on their User's blog space about how we have scaled Elasticsearch at Kenna.

ENJOY your new gig!

This week, I started to work on a videogame with my little sister who's a 3D modeler 😁

This week, I did fix a tricky bug... which the senior architect was not able to fix.

This week, I went to the gym 3 times after several years of failing to find a suitable way to fit it into my schedule. Late evening is the best time and the thought had never occurred to me until now.

Heck yeah! I've been doing mornings a lot more but prefer evenings because I'm not rushed.

Exactly! Also, there is usually significantly fewer people there. And, since I live close by, I can go straight in my gym clothes then back, take a shower home and wash the sweaty uniform right away.

Ah that's so nice! I like to think I'd go to the gym more often if it was close by. My gym is a 40 min subway commute involving a very long walk in the winter or two transfers 😒

This week, I wrote and ran my first automated test script using Selenium/WebDriver!

This week, I worked on the animations and overall design of DevLids.com. Mainly added a new font, Plex Mono, and tweaked the lid-motions.

This week, I returned from a ski trip where I did NOT hurt myself.

Finally getting my inputs recognized in our project! 🎉

This week, I.... actually put a small project online instead of letting it wither and gather dust in a folder. Genus Absurdus produces fake Latin names with some Latin prefixes and suffixes scraped from a few sources. It's stupid but was fun to make.

This week, I had my last day at work after 8 years working in data analysis in a hospital. This week is the start of my career shift into software development (with a focus in freelancing/contract work). Next step: a detailed plan.

This week, I and another teammate created a handbook for new team members. It is not intended to substitute having someone act as a shepard for new members. But, it is intended to help structure who we are, how we work together, and how to get stuff done.

That's definitely a resource that new team members appreciate -- but is overlooked at so many companies!

This week, I was able to remove 10gb of daily logs from SumoLogic ingestion.

This week, I Wrote a lossless decompression algorithm for my SBTCVM project.

To my knowledge, its possibly the first time a compressed image was ever displayed by a balanced ternary computer, virtual or not. :D

Its nothing too fancy, just a basic Run-length encoding, but it did cut the size of a test image from 1350 Nonets to just 434. 866 Nonets when you include the decoder.

This week, I went to a club for the first time with my friends (since coming out but also ever) and I had so much fun!!

This week, I restarted diving deeper into vim!

This week, I reached office on time.

Monday- 9:31
Tuesday - 9:34
Wednesday - 9:37
Thursday - 9:31
Friday - 9:29

This week, I completed my first school document at the internship.

This week, I.... managed to get a massive project to UAT a week a head of schedule!

Classic DEV Post from Dec 10 '18

What is the importance of understanding libraries and frameworks?

This has brought about two more interesting questions: What is the difference...
