Hi everyone!

Welcome to the dev.to-community!

I'm Martin, and I worked as a Senior Front-End Architect and Engineering Manager at some of the world's largest digital agencies, where I led front-end teams on international projects. After 15 years, I left.

Now I travel the world as a professional scuba diver and work as a contracted Tech Lead, Solution Architect, and technical Recruiter for international clients. Additionally, I write about technology on dev.to and Golem (German).

A life, Jimmy, you know what that is? It's the shit that happens while you're waiting for moments that never come.

That is my advice for everyone. Jump right in. Start writing! Today! That's how I became a published author for No Stach Press and Packt Publishing - who knows what's waiting for you?

My latest book Claude Code Beyond the Prompt will be available in November. Over the next few weeks, I'll run a series on dev. to revealing the chapters one-by-one. Take a look :)

If I have enough time, I write more in-depth articles and thought pieces here on dev.to, for example: Toward Agent Native Development.

My first book, The Complete Developer, is an easy, hands-on introduction to building web applications with Next.js, MongoDB, and Mongoose. It is part of multiple university syllabi in the USA and India - you can get it from No Starch Press

I recommend following the general tags webdev, ai , career and productivity and javascript, react, CSS. Head over to your Dashboard and adjust the tag weight to personalize your home feed.

Here's a list of articles to start your journey as a successful developer and a great writer:

If you are looking for your next job, I highly recommend buying the Book De-Coding the Technical Interview Process by Emma Bostian. It is hands down the best preparation for every technical interview.

If you're interested in my articles, have questions, or want to get in touch, don't hesitate to contact me on dev.to/martinkr

And remember to start posting today!

Cheers!

Hey Martin! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Transitioning from 15 years in agency leadership to balancing freelance tech lead work with professional scuba diving is such a cool journey. Talk about mastering work-life balance!

I really appreciate how consistently you encourage newcomers to start writing and sharing their journey early. With your experience mentoring and authoring The Complete Developer, whatโ€™s the single biggest barrier you see developers face when shifting from just consuming content to actually publishing their first post or open-source contribution?

Great having your perspective in the thread! ๐Ÿš€

Thank you for asking. The biggest single barrier "is not doing it". You will only improve a skill by using it. Write a ticket, raise a PR, publish a Library - don't hesitate; do it. Do it yourself, not ask an LLM, and you will learn something every time.

Couldn't agree more, Martin. The friction of wrestling with an issue and figuring it out yourself is where the actual muscle memory gets built. Shortcuts just don't teach you how to think through the messy edge cases.

Really appreciate the grounded perspective and the push to just build!

Hey everyone, and a huge welcome to all the new faces joining DEV! ๐Ÿ‘‹

I've been hanging around DEV and open-source spaces for a while now, and it's easily one of the most supportive developer communities out there.

With everything moving so fast right now - from agentic workflows and local AI tooling to modern full-stack performance, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. Don't worry about knowing it all; the best part of this platform is building in public, asking raw questions, and sharing your small wins.

To get the conversation started:

  1. What tech stack or side project are you diving into right now?
  2. What kind of content or feedback are you hoping to find here on DEV?

Drop a comment below with what you're building! Iโ€™d love to check them out and say hi! ๐Ÿš€

Hi everyone!

Iโ€™m excited to join the DEV community and connect with fellow developers and technology enthusiasts!

I have 20+ years of experience in enterprise IT, specializing in Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) using IBM Transformation Extender (ITX) and Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) using IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS). Throughout my career, Iโ€™ve worked on enterprise integrations, B2B/EDI solutions, data exchange, and asset management systems.

Iโ€™m here to share my knowledge and real-world experiences, learn from the community, and explore emerging technologies. Iโ€™m particularly interested in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), data integration, and intelligent asset managementโ€”especially how these technologies can work together to solve real-world business challenges.

Looking forward to exchanging ideas, sharing experiences, and learning from all of you. If youโ€™re working in any of these areas, Iโ€™d love to connect!

Happy coding!

๐Ÿ‘‹ Hey DEV community!

I'm Forge of Galion, a solo developer building GalionToon โ€” a free, browser-based creative suite for pixel artists, animators, and photo editors.

I've been lurking here for a while, learning a ton from your posts about JavaScript, Canvas, and browser performance. Time to finally say hi.

What I'm working on:
A creative suite with 5 studios (photo editing, rigging, pixel art, video, music) that runs entirely in the browser. Nothing is uploaded. No installs. No servers. Just JavaScript, Canvas, and a lot of patience.

What I'm learning right now:

  • Performance optimization for large canvases
  • WebCodecs API for video processing
  • How to make everything feel fast on old hardware

A fun fact:
I once spent 6 hours debugging a canvas performance issue, only to discover that Chrome had silently disabled the GPU. The fix was 3 lines of code. The lesson was: measure, don't guess.

Glad to be here. If you're building something browser-based, let's connect. ๐Ÿš€

Hi everyone!
Iโ€™m new here and wanted to drop in and introduce myself. I'm currently focusing my learning on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Itโ€™s a massive, exciting landscape, and I joined DEV because I've heard amazing things about how supportive this community is.

I'm mainly here to learn, connect with other developers, and soak up as much knowledge as I can. If anyone has favorite resources, roadmaps, or advice for navigating the AI/ML space, Iโ€™d love to hear them!

Excited to be here! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Hey everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Iโ€™m Hans, a Computer Engineering student from the Philippines. Iโ€™m currently learning more about web development, backend systems, AI, and building real projects that people can actually use.

Right now, Iโ€™m working on an open-source project called "Unified Student Hub", which is meant to help students manage deadlines, study plans, materials, PDFs, and focus sessions in one place.

I joined DEV.to because I want to learn from other developers, share what Iโ€™m building, improve through feedback, and meet people who are also learning and creating things.

Fun fact: I tend to jump between web apps, AI projects, game development, and 3D work depending on what Iโ€™m interested in that week ๐Ÿ˜…

Nice to meet everyone!

Hi everyone ๐Ÿ‘‹ I'm Saygin.

I'm not a developer. I'm a mechanical and industrial engineer with an MBA, and I spent ten years in UI design, writing and business development.

This year I built SiteNeuro, an AI platform that builds websites for small businesses, by writing specs and letting Claude Code write the code. 3,215 commits and 1,156 merged PRs later, I'm here to learn from people who actually read the diffs. ๐Ÿ˜„

I'm especially interested in how developers keep AI-written codebases healthy: tests, rules, review habits. I wrote up what worked for me in Guardrails for AI-written code..

Fun fact: I'm writing this from Da Nang. I basically live on Google Maps, which is where the idea for SiteNeuro came from. Happy to connect with anyone around, here or on LinkedIn

What's one guardrail you'd never skip on an AI-assisted project?
