  1. The Hook

Alright, another day, another "Senior Python Developer" role to dissect. This one's from Proxify AB, apparently looking for someone for "one of their clients." Immediately, my spidey senses are tingling. Recruiters posting for other companies... ugh. Let's see if the vagueness continues.

  1. The Stack Analysis

Okay, standard Python/Django fare. They're asking for 5+ years, which is reasonable for "Senior." SQL and PostgreSQL are mentioned specifically, good. The "plus" for Docker/Kubernetes is a bit concerning. At a senior level, I'd expect some containerization experience, not just consider it a bonus. AWS/GCP experience managing the infrastructure is also listed, leaning heavily towards DevOps responsibilities being bundled in. CI/CD experience is expected, thankfully. Nothing earth-shattering, but the Kubernetes being "a plus" worries me.

  1. The Money

"Competitive, based on experience and location (CET +/- 3 hours)." Ah, the classic non-answer. "Competitive" means they'll pay you just enough to not quit immediately. The time zone lock-in is annoying but understandable. Still, without a range, it's impossible to gauge if they're actually serious. Time to do some Glassdoor digging later. My scraper is humming, but the "competitive" part is always a lie, based on my experience.

  1. Red Flags / Green Flags

Red Flags: The vagueness surrounding the client, the "competitive" salary, Kubernetes as a plus, and the implied DevOps scope creep. "Growth-oriented" and "love what you do" are also corporate bingo buzzwords. "Ability to work with minimal supervision" usually means "we don't want to manage you because we don't know what we're doing."

Green Flags: Specific mention of PostgreSQL. At least they know what a database is. The CI/CD mention suggests some level of modern development practices. And 5+ years experience request is OK.

  1. The Verdict

This screams of a role where they're trying to get a senior developer to do the job of a senior developer and a DevOps engineer for mid-level pay. The "competitive" salary makes me highly suspicious. I'd apply only if desperate and prepared to negotiate hard. Be ready to grill them on the actual client, the budget for cloud infrastructure, and the team structure. Proceed with caution. This has a slight hint of desperation.
