Job Teardown: Is Steady Vision really paying...

Alright, let's dissect this "Web Developer" role at Steady Vision. Another day, another vaguely-worded job description promising "meaningful digital experiences." Yawn. Let's see if it's worth the server space it occupies.

The Hook

The initial pitch is classic agency-speak: "dynamic environment," "passionate," "small team." Translation: Expect long hours, a boss who thinks design is code, and team meetings that could've been emails. The "You're a Fit If…" section is just a laundry list of generic qualities every company wants. "Willing to go the extra mile?" Translation: Unpaid overtime is practically mandatory.

The Stack Analysis

Okay, now we're getting somewhere. Buried in the "What You’ll Be Doing…" section is the truth: PHP/MySQL, JavaScript, HTML, CSS. Sounds like a fairly standard LAMP stack with a side of WordPress/ExpressionEngine thrown in for good measure. "CMS customization" likely means wrestling with poorly written plugins and themes. The mention of Plesk suggests they're using shared hosting, which... well, let's just say performance optimization might be a constant uphill battle. The mention of "XML" suggests they haven't updated their integrations in at least a decade.

The Money

$60,000 - $80,000. They’re “estimating” based on “similar roles at agencies in Boston.” Translation: They're lowballing you. Boston is an expensive city. For someone handling the full deployment lifecycle (which includes server configuration, coding, security, and optimization), this is highway robbery. Expect to be doing the job of two people for the price of one.

Red Flags / Green Flags

Red Flags:

  • "Dynamic environment" – Overworked and understaffed.
  • "Willing to go the extra mile" – Unpaid overtime expected.
  • Vague "Meaningful digital experiences" promise.
  • "Estimate based on similar roles" - Lowballing.
  • Plesk mention - Likely using shared hosting.

Green Flags: (I'm grasping at straws here...)

  • Experience with a full deployment lifecycle would be diverse and broad.
  • Small team COULD mean fewer layers of bureaucracy (unlikely).

The Verdict

Pass. Unless you’re fresh out of bootcamp and desperate for any job, this role screams "exploitation." The salary is way too low for the responsibilities, and the vague language suggests a company that's either disorganized or intentionally trying to hide something. The fact that they're relying on "estimates" for salary in a city like Boston shows a lack of commitment to fair compensation. This smells like a grind. Proceed with extreme caution.

Side Note: Tired of building "To-Do" apps? I'm opening up my private API for a $35,000 Hackathon. Build a tool, I buy the codebase. Simple as that. Check it out: https://www.jobsniper.pro/hackathon.html
