Job Teardown: Is Remote Company really paying...

  1. The Hook
Another day, another "Senior Machine Learning Engineer" role promising untold riches and the chance to "disrupt" (eye roll). This one boasts "Canva AI" (Canva's jumped on the bandwagon, huh?), "AU remote" (finally, a reasonable time zone!), and a salary range that could actually pay my mortgage. Let's dive in and see if it's legit or just another marketing ploy disguised as a job posting.

  2. The Stack Analysis
Of course, no specifics on the stack. We're dealing with "Canva AI," so I'm guessing Python is involved. Probably TensorFlow or PyTorch. Maybe a sprinkling of Kubernetes because everything lives in containers now. And I'd bet my bottom dollar on some custom MLOps platform built in-house that's both simultaneously brilliant and terrifyingly fragile. The vagueness is a deliberate tactic; they want to attract a wide net of applicants. They'll sort out the actual skills later. Expect a leetcode style interview too.

  3. The Money
$180,000 - $250,000 AUD? Okay, that's actually somewhat compelling. The upper end is competitive for a Senior ML Engineer in Australia, even remotely. The lower end is… well, it's survivable. The range likely depends on experience and how well you can bullsh*t your way through the interview. My advice? Aim high. Negotiate hard. Remember they wouldn't post it if they weren't prepared to pay it. Get your offers in before negotiation.

  4. Red Flags / Green Flags
Red Flags: The lack of detail in the job description is a classic red flag. Are they hiding something? Also, "Remote Company" as the actual company? That's odd. Might be a recruiter.
Green Flags: "AU remote" means they're at least somewhat serious about targeting the Australian market. And the salary range, while broad, is enticing. The "Canva AI" brand affiliation adds a layer of legitimacy.

  5. The Verdict
Potentially worth a look, but approach with caution. Dig into "Remote Company" to confirm it's not some boiler-room recruitment agency. Prepare for a generic ML interview and a deep dive into your Python skills. And for God's sake, ask about their MLOps infrastructure. That's where the real pain lies.
