Nvidia's Rubin is still on track. No delays, says Jensen.

Jensen Huang made it clear during a recent briefing — Vera Rubin, Nvidia's next-gen architecture after Blackwell, is coming as planned. No slips, no timeline compression drama. That's a relief for anyone worried about the pace of Nvidia's one-year cadence. Rubin is supposed to bring a new GPU and CPU package built on a much denser interconnect, and the fact that Jensen is publicly standing behind the schedule tells me they've already taped out key pieces or are very close.

Two stories from WAIC 2026 caught my attention.

First, Alibaba's T-Head unit open-sourced SAIL — the software stack for its Zhenwu AI chips. The goal is straightforward: give Chinese developers a CUDA alternative that actually works with their domestic hardware. Huawei did the same with CANN earlier this year. This is not a short-term threat to Nvidia, but it's a deliberate, long-term play to erode CUDA's lock-in. And they're not trying to out-spend Nvidia on hardware — they're trying to win on the software layer.

Second, China's broader AI hardware strategy is shifting. Instead of chasing single-chip performance (which is constrained by US export controls), they're building "super-nodes" — lashing thousands of less advanced chips together with high-speed interconnects to approximate the compute power of a single giant GPU cluster. Apple overtook Nvidia as the world's most valuable company this week. Market cap reshuffling happens, but it's a reminder that the AI hype trade has its limits. SmartSens, the Chinese image sensor maker, forecast stronger H1 2026 results driven by AI-related demand. That's a smaller story but worth noting — AI isn't just about data-center GPUs. The edge and vision markets are growing faster than most people track.
