The DIY market is a weird place right now. RAM and SSD prices have been creeping up for months, and the Steam Machine landing at $1,049 while barely beating an old RTX 3060 makes you stop and think about what you're actually paying for. Valve finally shipped the Steam Machine, and it's a genuinely polished little console. But here's the awkward part — benchmark folks like GamersNexus have it pegged at roughly RTX 3060 / RX 6600 territory, and it's asking for over a grand. Don't get me wrong, the compact form factor and SteamOS experience are legitimately nice. To be fair, that integrated RDNA 3 chip is competent.

But you can get an Intel Arc B580 12GB for around $250 these days and beat it in Cyberpunk. The B580's been quietly the best budget card since late 2024 — 12GB of VRAM and 1440p performance at a price that actually makes sense. The Storage Price Crunch Nobody Wants to Talk About

No cloud, no datacenter GPU, just a tiny ARM board doing real work.
