5 Steps to Faster Design with Claude and Canva

What you need

  • A Claude account
  • A Canva account
  • A ready-to-use design template (e.g. PowerPoint slide or image file)
  • [Optional] Metricool account for scheduling your posts

Step 1: Open the Connectors Menu

First, log in to your Claude workspace. On the left sidebar, find your profile or settings icon and click it. Then choose the Customize section. From here you can add services like Canva.

  1. In Claude, click on Customize in the sidebar.
  2. Select Connectors.
  3. Click on Browse Connectors.
Customize > Connectors > Browse Connectors

This menu shows all the third-party apps you can integrate. It only takes a few seconds to locate Canva on the list.

Step 2: Connect Canva

Now that you’re in the connectors gallery, scroll or search until you spot Canva. The integration is officially supported, so you’ll see a clear Connect button next to the Canva logo.

  1. In the connectors list, find Canva.
  2. Click the Connect button next to it.

At this point, Claude will open a secure window and ask you to log into Canva. This step grants Claude permission to create and edit designs in your account.

Step 3: Authorize Your Canva Account

Once you hit Connect, Claude will redirect you to a Canva login page in a pop-up. If you’re already signed into Canva, you’ll see a consent screen. Just grant access and you’re done.

  1. Enter your Canva credentials in the pop-up.
  2. Approve the permissions screen.
  3. Close the window and return to Claude.

You’ll get a confirmation message that Canva is now connected. From here on, you can invoke Canva at any time inside a Claude chat.

Step 4: Start Creating or Editing Designs

To kick off a design session, open any chat with Claude and type:

Claude will switch into Canva mode. It will ask you to upload a template file or choose an existing design. Once uploaded, describe what you need in plain English:

  • Make a 5-slide Instagram carousel
  • Update the banner with our brand colors
  • Create a poster for an upcoming webinar

Claude then generates or updates your design directly in Canva. This saves you from toggling between apps.

Step 5: Publish with Metricool

After Claude builds your designs, you can keep your workflow inside the same chat by connecting Metricool. Describe your publishing plan:

  • Select your social channels
  • Set date and time for each post
  • Add captions and hashtags

Metricool schedules and publishes your new carousel or banner without leaving Claude. Now your content pipeline runs from idea to design to publishing in a single conversation.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting to click Approve on the Canva permissions pop-up before closing the window.
  • Typing the connector steps incorrectly instead of copying them verbatim.
  • Uploading the wrong file format (use PNG or PPTX for best results).
  • Trying to call Canva before it’s fully connected (wait for the success confirmation).
