7 Steps to Choose Best AI Mode

What you need

  • A ChatGPT or Claude account
  • Access to the mode selector in your AI interface
  • A computer or device with internet access
  • (Optional) Paid plan for premium features

1. Open Your AI Tool

First, log in to your ChatGPT or Claude account in a browser or app. On the left sidebar or top menu you'll see a mode selector dropdown or button. This is your control center for choosing how the AI behaves. Take a moment to locate this switch.

2. Review Available Modes

Before switching, review the built-in modes. These presets tailor the AI to specific tasks. You can see a quick snapshot like this:

Modes ki simple jhalak:
• Chat: ideas, quick sawal-jawab, lookups
• Work/Cowork: actual assignments delegate karne ke liye
• Codex/Code: working software ya websites banane ke liye
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Reading this helps you match your task to the right mode.

3. Switch to Chat Mode

When you need brainstorming, research or simple Q&A, use Chat mode. In your prompt box, type:

Switch to Chat mode
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Hit Enter and the AI will adjust its style to casual conversation. Try asking, “What are 5 blog topics for AI beginners?” and see the friendly, overview-style answers.

4. Switch to Work/Cowork Mode

For detailed assignments, outlines or project planning, use Work/Cowork. Enter:

Switch to Work/Cowork mode
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Now the AI takes a structured, task-focused tone. You can delegate sub-tasks like “Create a 3-point outline on machine learning basics.” This mode keeps responses businesslike and organized.

5. Switch to Codex/Code Mode

When you need code snippets, debugging help or full apps, use Codex/Code. Type:

Switch to Codex/Code mode
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

The AI will give you syntactically correct code examples. Try “Generate a Python script for web scraping” and watch the code appear.

6. Compare Results and Adjust

After testing each mode on the same prompt, compare speed, accuracy and readability. Note which mode solved your problem fastest. For example, you might find Codex/Code gives perfect code but lacks detailed explanations. Use Work mode for step-by-step guides.

7. Upgrade for Premium Features

If you need higher speed, larger context or exclusive modes, consider a paid plan. Paid plan lene se premium features milte hain. This unlocks advanced models and faster response times.

Common mistakes

  • Skipping mode review and sticking to default Chat mode
  • Forgetting to switch back after coding sessions
  • Assuming Codex mode explains concepts in detail
  • Ignoring performance differences in Work mode
