If you are planning an engagement shoot in Derbyshire, the location matters more than the outfit. Here are the 10 most-photographed engagement photo locations in the region, with timing, parking, and what each looks like at golden hour.

1. Curbar Edge

The most-photographed gritstone edge in the eastern Peak District. The view is rolling green hills, heather in August, and the Hope Valley in the distance. Best at sunset. Parking at the National Trust car park (5 minutes from the edge).

2. Stanage Edge

The longer, more dramatic edge. Less iconic than Curbar but more privacy. Best at sunset. Parking at the Upper Burbage car park.

3. Padley Gorge

A wooded gorge with a Victorian chapel ruin, 15 minutes from Hathersage. The most-photographed 'secret' engagement location in the region. Best in any season, golden light filters through the trees.

4. Dovedale

The most-photographed valley in the Peak District. The stepping stones are the headline; the rest of the valley is equally photogenic. Best at sunrise (less crowded).

5. Chatsworth House

The most-photographed stately home in the East Midlands. The gardens are open year-round (NT membership required). Best in May-June for the rhododendrons, September for the autumn colour.

6. Bakewell

A market town on the River Wye. The stone bridge and the riverside walk are the most-photographed spots. Best in any season; morning light is best.

7. Kedleston Hall

A Palladian stately home, 5 miles north of Derby. The parkland and the orangery are both photographic. National Trust rules apply.

8. Elvaston Castle

The walled garden, the Gothic Hall, and the woodland walk. Less crowded than the Peak District locations. Best in any season.

9. Carsington Water

A reservoir with a 7-mile walking loop, 5 miles from Ashbourne. Less iconic than the Peak District but quiet and easy to access. Best at sunset.

10. Cromford Mill

An 18th-century mill in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, 2 miles from Matlock Bath. Industrial chic, less photographed than the Peak District, with a different aesthetic.
