Wedding album UK: a 2026 buyer's guide to fine art, layflat, matted, and digital albums. From a Derbyshire wedding photographer.
Every couple wants a wedding album. Most couples don't end up with one. This guide explains why, and walks you through the four main album types in 2026 (fine art, layflat, matted, digital) so you can make the right choice for your day.

Why most couples don't end up with a wedding album
Three reasons: (1) the photographer didn't include it in the package, (2) the couple didn't budget for it, (3) the album design process is slow and many couples give up halfway through. The fix for all three is to order the album in the first 3 months after the wedding, when the photos are still fresh.

The four main album types in 2026
(1) Fine art album — the most-photographed option; thick, layflat pages with a soft matte finish; £400-800 for 30 spreads. (2) Layflat album — photos that span across the spine; £300-600 for 30 spreads. (3) Matted album — traditional photo album with a mat around each photo; £500-900 for 30 spreads. (4) Digital album — a coffee-table book; £200-400 for 30 spreads.

How to choose
Three questions: (1) do you want photos that span across the spine (layflat) or single-page (matted), (2) do you want a soft matte finish (fine art) or a glossy photo finish (matted), (3) do you want a digital book or a physical album. Most couples end up with a fine art or layflat album.
How long it takes
Album design takes 4-8 weeks after you receive the final images. Allow an extra 4-6 weeks for production and delivery. Plan to have the album in your hands within 4 months of the wedding. Order in the first 2-3 months while you are still in 'wedding mode'.
