Planning a Kedleston Hall wedding? A 2026 guide to the venue, the National Trust rules, where the best photos happen, and what to budget. From a Derbyshire wedding photographer.

Kedleston Hall is the most elegant wedding venue in Derbyshire. A Palladian stately home in 800 acres of parkland, run by the National Trust. The State Rooms are licensed for ceremonies up to 70 guests. It is also a much more restrictive venue than most couples expect. Here is the photographer's honest guide.

What Kedleston Hall actually is — and what it isn't

Kedleston Hall is a 1750s Palladian stately home designed by Robert Adam. The wedding licence covers the State Rooms (the central Marble Hall, the Saloon, and the Eating Room) and the East Wing. The State Rooms are light, bright, and genuinely old. The East Wing is more recent and more flexible.

The National Trust rules — read them before you book

Kedleston Hall weddings are subject to National Trust rules on photography zones, supplier lists, music volume, and access to the wider park. The Marble Hall is the most-photographed, but you cannot move furniture, set up lighting, or use a flash. The East Wing is more flexible. Read the venue's wedding pack before you book, and book a venue tour.

Where the best photos happen

Inside: the Marble Hall is the obvious headline. Outside: the south lawn (south-facing, beautiful in late afternoon), the bridge over the lake (one of the most-photographed features of the venue), and the wider park (genuinely 800 acres, plenty of room to be alone). Avoid the front of the house for portraits — it is west-facing and backlit in the afternoon.

Who Kedleston Hall is for

Couples who want a Palladian stately home wedding, are happy to work within the National Trust's rules, and have a guest count of 40–70. Not for couples who want a large white-bright wedding, or who want to bring in their own food and drink.

What to budget for Kedleston Hall

2026 prices: £12,000–£18,000 for venue hire, £80–£120 per head for catering (approved suppliers only), £2,500–£4,500 for photography. The all-in for a 60-guest Saturday wedding is typically £28,000–£35,000. There is no on-site accommodation.
