Curbar Edge elopement in the Peak District: how to plan one, the best car park, when to go, what to wear, and the best photo spots. From a Derbyshire wedding photographer.
Curbar Edge is the most-photographed gritstone edge in the Peak District. The view from the edge — rolling hills, heather, and the Hope Valley in the distance — is the image most couples have in their head when they think 'Peak District elopement'. Here is the complete guide to planning one.

Why Curbar Edge
Curbar Edge is the eastern Peak District's most-photographed gritstone edge. The view is genuinely iconic — rolling green hills, heather in August, and the Hope Valley in the distance. It is one of the few Peak District locations that photographs exactly as it looks in your head.

Practical: the car park and the walk
There is a small National Trust car park at the bottom of Curbar Edge (signed from the A625). It fills up by 9am on summer weekends — aim to arrive before 8am or after 4pm. The walk from the car park to the edge itself is 10-15 minutes, with the best photo spots 5 minutes along the edge to the north.

When to go
August is the most-photographed month (the heather is in bloom). May and September are quieter with great light. Avoid Bank Holiday weekends. Sunrise and sunset are the best times for light; mid-day is harsh on the edge.
The wet-weather plan
Curbar Edge is exposed: in heavy rain, there is no shelter, and the edge can be slippery. Three options: (1) reschedule, (2) drop down into the valley for sheltered photos (the woodland below the edge is photogenic in rain), (3) move to a backup venue.
What it costs in 2026
Curbar Edge elopement: £1,000–£1,800 for photography (2-3 hours, 100+ edited images), £0 for the National Trust car park (if you have a membership, otherwise £5–£8). Total elopement budget for two including meal, accommodation, and legal paperwork: £3,000–£5,000.
