Looking for a Peak District engagement photographer? A 2026 guide to the best engagement photo locations, what to wear, when to book, and what it costs.
Engagement shoots in the Peak District are one of the most popular things we photograph. They are also one of the most-photographed types of session in the UK wedding industry. Here is the complete guide: best locations, when to book, what to wear, what to budget, and what the photos look like.

Why a Peak District engagement shoot is worth it
Three reasons: (1) the photos are great for save-the-dates, wedding websites, and your reception signage, (2) the shoot is a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera before the wedding day itself, (3) the Peak District in any season produces the most-photographed engagement photos in the UK.

The best locations — by season
Spring: Dovedale (April-May), Curbar Edge (April-May), the Bluebell woods near Hathersage (mid-May). Summer: Stanage Edge (anytime), Hathersage (anytime), Castleton (June). Autumn: Padley Gorge (October), Longshaw (October-November), Hathersage (October). Winter: Hathersage (December-February), Chatsworth (December, with the Christmas market as a backdrop).

When to book — and when the photoshoot itself should happen
Book 4-6 months ahead for a Saturday or weekend session. The photoshoot itself should be 2-3 hours before sunset (the 'golden hour' is the best light in the Peak District). For a winter session, the shoot can be 1pm-3pm; for a summer session, 5pm-7pm.
What to wear
Coordinated, not matching. Earthy colours (forest green, rust, mustard, cream) work in any season. Avoid very bright colours, very dark colours, and very busy patterns. Bring one outfit change if you want variety — a casual walk outfit and a slightly more dressed-up outfit.
What it costs in 2026
Peak District engagement shoots in 2026 cost £350–£750 for a 1.5–2 hour session with a single photographer and 30–60 edited images. Most wedding photographers in the region offer engagement shoots at a discount if you book the wedding through them.
