A 90-day, week-by-week plan for planning a Peak District elopement — from a Derbyshire-based elopement photographer who has shot 100+ of them.

Most of the couples who book us for a Peak District elopement are planning in 6–12 months. But it is genuinely possible — and often better — to plan one in 90 days. Here is the week-by-week plan we walk every eloping couple through, with the small things that make the difference between a stressful 90 days and a relaxed one.

Days 1–7 — the decisions that drive everything else

Three things: (1) the date — avoid school holidays and bank holidays if you can, (2) the location — pick the region, not the exact spot, (3) the photographer — book this before anything else. Good Peak District elopement photographers are booked 4–8 months ahead, and a 90-day timeline compresses that further.

Days 8–30 — the bookings

The registrar (Derbyshire register office has a 28-day notice period), the photographer, the officiant if you want one, and accommodation for the two nights. The Peak District has dozens of gorgeous, photogenic, dog-friendly places to stay. Book early.

Days 31–60 — the small things

Outfits, rings, paperwork, witnesses (most couples ask two friends; some use the photographer and a stranger they met the day before — this is fine and entirely legal). Hair and makeup, the cake, the meal, the post-ceremony activity (a long walk, a pub lunch, a sunset portrait session).

Days 61–90 — the final walk-through

A venue walk-through or a phone call with the photographer to plan the exact location, exact timing, the wet-weather backup, and the timeline for the day. Two weeks before the date, the photographer should send a one-page location-specific guide (the parking, the walk to the spot, the best light, the nearest pub for a pint after).

Day-of — the only rule

The only rule for the day: be present. The elopement is not a performance. It is the two of you, in a beautiful place, with a photographer, promising each other something. The best Peak District elopement photographs come from the couples who forget, for a few hours, that anyone is watching.
