QuackBuilds has released The Casebook, a monthly co-op detective mystery game designed for couples (18+). This is an asymmetric two-player experience intended for at-home date nights.
One partner operates the Evidence Board, which contains crime-scene photos, documents, and a timeline. The other partner works with the Witness Files, consisting of interview transcripts. Neither player has all the information needed to solve the case independently; the game relies on conversation and collaboration. Players must share what they see and connect witness statements to physical evidence to unlock hidden clues and identify the culprit.
A new full-length case, typically taking 45-60 minutes to complete, is released on the first of each month. Cases are authored in a noir whodunit structure, including red herrings, locked evidence, and AI hints if players get stuck. A hard-boiled debrief follows successful case resolution. The game features a 'Noir Case File' visual theme with charcoal and alley gray tones, amber lighting, and 'CONFIDENTIAL' stamped manila folder cards. It uses server-authoritative connections for scoring and reveals, is private by default, and is an installable PWA.
A demo case is available for free. A subscription, 'The Casebook Files' ($7.99/mo or $59.88/yr), covers both partners and unlocks all monthly cases plus the full back catalog. Single cases can also be purchased permanently for $9.99.
