I've shipped a new small helper: the JSON Response Validator for API Calls. This tool is designed to assist with common issues encountered when working with public APIs that return JSON.
The core function of this validator is to fetch JSON data from a given URL. A specific feature included is the automatic addition of the format parameter when the target URL is wttr.in. This addresses a common requirement for that particular service, ensuring the response is in a parseable format.
Once the data is fetched, the validator checks if the response constitutes valid JSON. If the response is not valid, it provides clear error messages, indicating the problem. This can simplify the process of debugging API calls, especially when dealing with services that might return malformed data or unexpected content.
The goal is to help developers quickly identify and address JSONDecodeError bugs, which are frequent when consuming external APIs. By providing immediate feedback on the JSON validity, it aims to reduce time spent on diagnosing why an API response isn't parsing as expected.
